Metaverse Brand Watch: October 2022

Welcome to our monthly recap on all of the traditional and web2 brands making moves into this thing we’re calling the metaverse, and when we say metaverse we’re not just referring to virtual worlds but the broader web3 landscape, including NFTs, social tokens, DAOs, and crypto more broadly. With that, here’s what’s been happening in the past month.

With that, here’s what’s been happening in the past month.

AXA

AXA becomes the newest organisation to enter the metaverse, partnering with The Sandbox. The insurer has acquired a 3x3 LAND, where it will provide an innovative interactive space for its customers.

Gary Ho, Chief Technology Officer, AXA Hong Kong and Macau, said: “I’m honoured to announce that AXA has partnered with The Sandbox to expand our digital presence by setting foot in the metaverse. This collaboration has reflected AXA’s vision and interest to create the insurance of the future by bringing immersive experiences around sustainability, wellness, healthcare, and so much more.” READ MORE

 

Commercial Bank International (CBI) 

Dubai-based Commercial Bank International (CBI) has jumped into the metaverse by creating a virtual location on Decentraland. The bank has put together a “future-facing” agenda that will focus on further exploring the metaverse’s potential. “It’s a testament to our strong support and belief in the country's vision of being a leader in innovation worldwide,” said CBI CEO Ali Sultan Rakkad Al Amri. DreamWorks

DreamWorks, recently released their Trolls NFT collection in partnership with Gala Game’s VOX. Each Dreamworks Trolls VOX Box costs 0.888 ETH, but it also gives you the chance to win Gala Music allowlist tokens, Gala Film NFTs of DreamWorks Trolls trailer, and land parcels in the VOXverse. “We’re building a very large and elaborate world with different environments within that world,” VOXverse creator Will Wright said in an AMA video. Walmart

Walmart is making plays in the metaverse, recently launching two new experiences, Walmart Land and Walmart’s Universe of Play, the latter being a gaming platform using Roblox.

The leading retailer is experimenting with new ways to reach shoppers to shake up their shopping habits after the pandemic. It is trying to fuel consumers’ engagement with social media, apps and gaming websites. The company is targeting Gen Z shoppers which are young, around 25 years of age or younger.  READ MORE

 

UPS

One of the world’s biggest shipping and parcel supply services has entered the metaverse. UPS has launched a venue in Decentraland with the aim of targeting small businesses in the virtual world. The company is planning to use this space for events and educational purposes, with experts providing talks on essential aspects of running a business. The UPS team has invested significant time in this latest venture, aiming to provide an immersive and dynamic learning experience. READ MORE

Toys R Us

Toys R Us, the children's toys megabrand, has announced the launch of a new NFT collection on Solana. The company has previously released NFTs on other ecosystems but this is its first move into Solana. As of the moment, there has been no announcement regarding details of the NFT drop, however, what we do know is that the NFT collection is brought to us as a partnership between Toys R Us and Anybodies NFT. Anybodies is a digital fashion agency that brings web3 experiences to life. READ MORE

 

Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Entertainment is turning the “Lord Of The Rings” movie series into an NFT experience. The iconic movie will be turned into a unique web3 interaction - the digital experience includes the movie in 4K, never-seen-before footage, behind-the-scenes stills, and even AR collectibles. The launch encompasses two NFT tiers – the “Premiere Mystery Edition”, which has 10,000 collectibles priced at US$30 each, and the “Premier Epic Edition” – 999 collectibles priced at US$100 each.
